Do you remember the iconic back-tap gestures in iPhones? The feature available on iPhones after the release of iOS 14 was previously not available on Android. Guess what? You can use the feature on Android phones running Android Nougat (Android 7) and later, thanks to the App ‘Tap, Tap‘.

Google also had plans of bringing the feature on Android 11 and had included it in the first and second developer preview. However, Google later decided to remove this feature.

However, this didn’t stop XDA Forums Recognized Developer Quinny899 from developing an app that works with most Android phones. The app, ‘Tap, Tap’ works using an accelerometer and gyroscope and does not need any extra sensors to work. The app works on any ARMv8 device running on Android Nougat or later. You’ll need to give Accessibility Services permissions for the app to work.

The app uses the same machine learning codes and TensorFlow models used in Android 11 developer previews and is open-sourced. The app is still in Beta.

‘Tap, Tap’ App Sections:

The app contains Gesture, Double Tap Actions, Triple Tap Actions, Gates, Feedback, Advanced, and Backup & Restore. You’ll basically change the sensitivity on the Gesture section. You’ll choose the actions and the use conditions on the Double Tap Actions and Triple Tap Actions sections. Gates will restrict the use cases in certain conditions like Display off, Display on, USB plugged in, On-call, Charging, Keyword open, Pocket, Table, etc.

The feedback section contains options to adjust how your device will react when a gesture is used. You can turn on or off the vibrate option, wake device option, and vibrate when do not disturb mode is enabled option. There are some more features in the Advanced section. You can backup your settings and restore via the Backup & Restore section. There is a section for Battery Optimization as well.

Gestures Available:

There are bunch of different gestures available on ‘Tap, Tap’ app. I’ve list them down.

These are the actions you can choose on your double tap and triple tap gestures. Please note that only options available on your device will work. For example, my phone doesn’t support a split-screen, and the action didn’t work on mine. And being honest, I’ve not tried all the features of the app.
