We love to learn by interacting and competing on challenges, so do the children. The school education isn’t that interesting to keep students hooked to study. That’s why students bend their heads when we suggest them to study. There are interactive learning apps with plenty of challenges to keep students hooked to the study. There are a bunch of apps available in foreign countries, while there was not a single compelling app for Nepalese students. I recently got introduced to Neema Academy, which has compelling content and can be operated on the web and Android and iOS apps.
The about section of the website of Neema Academy says that the Neema Academy platform is developed and operated by ‘Neema Education Foundation,’ which was established in 2018. According to the section, the team has experience in the education field for more than 30 years and in technology for more than 10 years.
Let’s get into the app experience now.
It is easy to sign up for the platform. You can sign up using your Google, Apple, or Facebook account at a click. Don’t want to connect with Google, Apple, or Facebook? No worries, you can register using an email address as well. Do you know what I liked most? You don’t need a phone number to register, unlike other eLearning platforms.
Once the details are filled in, and you chose your grade, the app will send OTP to your phone number or email based on your entry. If you didn’t receive OTP on your email during registration, you can’t request a new one on the web app, while there’s an option to resend OTP on the android app. Maybe, they should add this option on the web app as well.
Once logged in, you can edit your profile and add details.
Now, let’s go to the platform’s content part, which is the most important one.
To start learning, you’ll need to enroll in the courses first. You can enroll the subjects by clicking on the Library section. I tested the platform choosing grade 10 and found that Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, English, and Nepali subjects. This means student can’t learn all the subjects he/she studies in the school as of now. Enrolling in courses is currently free as a response to situations created by COVID-19, except Mass Communication of Grade XI, which can be subscribed via Khalti.
Students can always learn with the text and visual version of content put on the platform. But the real learning+entertainment part comes through the tests and practice questions. You can choose the subject and its topics to take tests and practice questions. One can know the answer right after completing each question with the solution process. This is really entertaining and knowledgeable. However, it is not that easy to take tests. In fact, I was also confused when the app said ‘No Content For Practice.’ Little did I know that I needed to click on the ‘+’ button at the bottom and choose the topics.
At the bottom right corner, you’ll see a Progress tab. This is the place where you’ll see your performance over the selected period of time. From your test scores to time spent in learning lessons, you can track your performance and make decisions to improve your learning behavior.
There is a section for Live Test, where the Neema Academy team conducts regular live tests. The tests will be available for SEE preparing students starting the end of Chaitra.
There are sections for bookmarks and notes, where one can find the bookmarked lessons and notes. There is even a section dedicated to the Study Plan where students can create and save their study timetable. In the Assignments section, the student can see the instructor’s assignments and perform those tasks accordingly.
In addition to these sections, there are few more sections. Among them, Ask Question is one. I thought there might be an option to ask the questions to instructors, but it’s not in the section. Instead, students need to enroll in any one course and go inside the chapter and the topic in which they are having problems, and then they can ask the question by clicking on the icon with a question mark on the bottom of the screen.
There is also the Feed section, and there’s no option to post while interacting as a student. Currently, instructors can only post on the feed. There is an author section where you can follow instructors and see their content on the feed. The feed also has a filter where you can choose to see content from all instructors or only from the one you follow.
There is a dedicated section for Notice. In this section, students will get all the notices related to them.
The other sections include Games, Invite and earn, where you can earn coins that can be used to subscribe to courses, and Premium Pass, which currently doesn’t have anything but will give access to all the courses with a single subscription.
I liked the content of the app, including tests, quizzes, and practice sessions. However, there are rooms for improvement to make the app more user-friendly.
There are plenty of good things in Neema Academy. You can watch interactive videos, learn at your own pace, set goals, track your progress, take tests, and compete in challenges, that too for free (as of now). I definitely recommend this platform as the content part of Neema Acadamy is really amazing, possibly the best in Nepal.
